Block eraser tool works spotty in Photoshop CC! Why??

The block eraser tool is one of the most basic tools in Photoshop, and one of the tools I use most for cleaning B&W art scans. However, since upgrading to Photoshop CC I find the block eraser tool is spotty... erasing something slowly leaves gaps that don't get erased, sometimes I have to make 2-3 passes over something to completely erase it. The brush and pencil eraser tools works fine, the issue is just with the block eraser. Anyone else have this issue? How on earth did they ruin this most basic of tools??

Hi

I've just tried and I can't replicate that here on Windows 10 with CC2017.1.1

Have you tried resetting the tool (in the options bar right click on the down arrow at the top left then click on "rest tool")

Dave

Resetting the tool did not solve the issue. I should point out the block eraser tool is spotty when using it SLOWLY to erase. It leaves gaps that don't get erased. I've tried it on three different computers in the office (all Mac computers), and it operates the same on all three, so I assume it's a bug in Photoshop CC.

What brush preset are you using?  Try a fully hard brush.  I quite like square brushes with the eraser to get into corners.

Something else you could try instead of using the eraser, is to use the paint brush with blend mode (in options bar) set to Overlay.  Brush with white to remove weak lines, and black to reinforce the lines you want to keep.

Do you ink in on a new layer to finish off?  If you are a Windows user, and don't already do so, try Lazy Nezumi Pro.  Not tablet user should be without it!

[EDIT]  Just seen that you are a Mac user, so bad luck about LNP.

I've found that the mac trackpad is more reliable in this case than an external mouse. No clue why, very frustrating.

To be clear, this is what we're dealing with (on mac):
