blue points not showing up, Please help

I'm working on starting my brand and need to mask an object/ delete the later background. Not sure why but the blue points that are in all the tuts and stuff are not showing up. When I quickselect an object and then try creating a work path a connected un-moveable line shows up. Super frustrated and I've tried everything at this point, even deleted ps and reinstalled it. Any help would be awesome

First of all you should double click on path to convert it to normal not work path to avoid accidental deletion.

 

Regarding path points not showing up: activate Direct Selection Tool and click on path. You can hold down Ctrl/Cmd to temporary switch to direct selection tool. If path points still not showing up then turn on View > Extras and check what is set from View > Show > submenu.
