Blue Screen Fatal Error / GPU problems

New Here ,
Oct 11, 2022 Oct 11, 2022

Apologies for the lengthy description below. I am sincerely hoping that somebody may be able to help me resolve the problems which I have been recently experiencing whilst using Photoshop following recent updates. I am currently running          Photoshop V 23.5.1

The errors which I have been experiencing commences with a blue screen error, freezing and shutting down of the application, associated GPU error notifications and slow running starting up of PS from Bridge. All of which are extremely frustrating particularly as I have followed the guide for resolving GPU issues.

My machine a DELL XPS 15 9560 has two GPU’s installed as follows:-

  1. INTEL (R) HD Graphics 630 (INTEL)
  2. NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 (NVIDIA)

The blue screen error displays the following  VIDEO_DGKRNL_FATAL_ERROR

After having shut down and going back into the application which opens extremely slowly the following on screen notification is often received :-

Your graphics processor is incompatible followed by the following notifications

! Driver update recommended

X OpenGL unavailable

X DirectX unavailable

 POpen CL available

PAbove required VRAM

GPU detected INTEL (R) HD Graphics 630 (INTEL)

Having opened the INTEL site, to update my graphics software via their automatic tool which ascertains the installed software. I received the following notification ‘Your Intel drivers and software are UpToDate’’ !!!

I then interrogated the NVIDIA graphic card via the Graphics Processor Compatibility Check via Photoshop. Which produced the following results ‘Your Graphics Processor is Compatible with 4 green P in the results boxes. Despite this reassurance and confirmation, I went onto the NVIDIA site to check whether an update was available, using their Studio drivers as recommended. An update was available 517.40 dated 9/20/2022 This I subsequently installed.

It may be of interest that when opening my NVIDIA Account the home screen games and apps shows an icon to connect to ‘Bridge’ and also ‘Lightroom Classic’ but no icon for ‘Photoshop’ which I would have expected to be there also.

So as of todays date despite both Graphics Cards and Drivers allegedly being UpToDate, I am still receiving Blue Screen errors. Hence requesting assistance in resolving this frustrating situation.

Photoshop cannot utilize two GPUs - please refer to this page to resolve and remove the lesser GPU.

That sounds more like a system issue. Have you actually run DXDiag? Checked the event viewer? Also boot into safe mode and check things there. That aside you can of course always fully disable the Intel graphics in the BIOS and see if it helps.

@Mylenium this is pretty common for PS - two GPUs installed, and (per the OP) PS is detecting the lesser (incompatible) GPU. The help page deals directly with this issue.
