I am working on a file with a smart object that has a (fairly complex) path blur filter on it. I expect that to run a bit slow - it always does - but it's actually extremely slow to apply and is causing other issues.
If try to copy any layers from other files into the one with the smart object I get a massive lag. Spinning little wheel for something like 10-15 minutes - if it works at all. The new layers are not affecting the smart object (they are above it) but it seems like Pshop is redoing all the blur calculations in the background or something? Rasterizing the smart object or deleting the layer fixes the problem.
I have switched GPU usage from Advanced to Normal. Next step might be to disable it altogether - just wondering if anyone else is seeing this or if there might be a known issue?
Thanks /b

The only thing I can think of is if they are effecting the smart object from above, what is the blend mode on these things you are bringing in from other files? even if they are above the smart object, certain blend modes could still effect how the image will display and cause it to re-render out the blur effect.
Another thought would be to just turn off the visibility of that layer while you bring the other things in from the other files, then once you have it all in there, turn it back on. See

Blending modes do not make any difference. My layers were on normal, but I tested it to see. Turning off visibility was a good idea - it didn't work, but turning off the Smart filter visibility (disabling it) did work! With the filter active copying in a text layer took about 8-10 minutes. With the filter disabled it was instantaneous, and turning the filter back on was also instantaneous. Seems likely to be a bit of glitch in there?
Thanks for the input - that workaround is going to save me a LOT of time on this project

right on. I'll look more into this to see if I find an issue there as well. Glad you were able to find a way to make it all work!

I can probably share a file privately if you want to check it out and cannot reproduce it. Thanks again
