Brush issues (settings issues + issue with patterns showing through)

Hi guys,

I'm having issues all of a sudden with my brushes in photoshop 2020 (completely up to date, used on an iMac running up to date Catalina).

Every time I click on a brush and start using it the "leaf pattern" (the 2020 default pattern) is showing through with my brush strokes.

I have to go into brush settings and turn off the 'pattern' option (even though I previously never had it checked/saved for any brushes, yet it's turning on automatically). The brush will then work as usual, but if I click to another brush the brush I just fixed will then revert back to having the pattern again. This is happening to nearly all my new and old brushes - it's really frustrating.

Have I accidentally clicked someone or missed a setting in regards to pattern use?

Also another thing, it mightn't be an issue but maybe something I've overlooked;

I often buy brushes from other artists, whereas the brushes of course have their own settings saved into each brush, so the opacity is different for one, the flow different for another etc etc.

However the settings aren't changing when I change brushes, so just say I've been using my own brush on settings 100% for both opacity & flow, when I click on one of the new brushes it will just mirror my current settings (so 100% opacity & flow) rather change to the unique settings the artist created the brush with, including brush size etc.

Is this an issue or something I literally never noticed, or just overlooked?

This became very apparent in a new set of brushes I just bought from a professional artist, whereas his brushes were created with very specific opacity/flow in mind (and don't really work as nicely without such).

I contacted him to ask him his settings as my brushes weren't reflecting the settings of the brushes he created, he said it was "weird" and that the settings should show/change when I click the brush.  I then realised it was happening to all my brushes despite having saved various settings into new brushes in the past.

Has this always been the case and I've oddly just never noticed?

I'm a bit confused that this other photoshop user mentioned the opacity/flow should change depending on which brush I've selected, as that's what his brushes do, and it's how he saved them, yet my settings all just remain the same unless changed manually.

I've tried resetting tools/brushes many times, deleted and re-loaded all brushes etc.

Have I accidentally changed a setting or something that is affecting my brushes so?

All help/advice greatly appreciated~
