Question

Brush size jumps in size (larger and smaller) than actual paint area

Using PS CC 2019, just noticed that when painting with the brush tool, the size of the tool and paint area randomly change. Sometimes when starting to paint, the paint area jumps larger than the tool outline and then stopping and starting to paint again the tool outline might snap to the size of the paint area or the tool outline will reduce in size compared to the paint area. I have PS CC 2018 on the same laptop and this does not occur. Video attached, sorry for the quality.

Looks like you might have a Size Jitter setting in Shape Dynamics located in the Brush Settings panel.

    (Window>Brush Settings)

It might just be easier to reset the brush tool by right clicking on the Brush Icon in the tool options bar and clicking Reset Tool.

Thank Jeff! That is exactly what the cause was. Not sure how it became set to 50%, but all is well now.
