Brush tip suddenly not sharp

Hello I am an experienced photoshop user, I use Surface pro 4 and have for many years.

a few days ago my brush tips started dragging out and giving ugly rounded tips-

pen pressure sensitivity works fine, I have messed with the smoothing settings

just letting you know mine is doing this and at times it even looks like im drawing with a mouse and not a tablet, zero variation, ive been minimizing the window and (first saving just incase) and for some reason it works when i bring the window back up ( im on an imac - catalina but not the newest update) it's also blocking out when in transform mode idk.
