Question

Brush tool feather outline not visible

Running Photoshop 22.4.3 on an M1 Macbook Pro.

When using the brush tool, I cannot see the outer feathering outline of the cursor. To be clear, the standard round cursor is there and does change size appropriately. Feathering still works, but the second, outer circle that represents the feathering is not there. I tried reverting to the previous version of Photoshop where I know this visible but the problem remained. I reset preferences to no avail.

Anyone else having this issue? Is there some toggle I don't know about?

Just hopping in and saying I'm having the same issue. Cursor always shows 100% hardness, no matter the amount of feather applied. Only started to happen on the latest major version that included ai fill.

You should only get one circle showing the outer feathering, if set to cursor normal tip in prefs.

Try CTRL Option Drag Left and right for size, then Up and down for hardness. That should show if you are working correctly.

thanks. This is how I always used it until I saw a few online videos that show the double circle, just the way it is in LR.

Update: I tried using Photoshop on my Windows machine and the same thing is happening. I wasn't expecting that. Am I crazy? There should be an inner circle on the brush cursor to signify the feather, right?

I encounter the same problem. Any solution?

I decided I was insane and was thinking of a similar behavior in Lightroom and/or jumped universes a la Bearenstain/Bearenstein bears.

Did you check your Preferences/Cursors to see if Full Size Brush Tip is on?

It was set to normal. I tried full, too. I don't see any difference between them.

Did you restart your PS after making the change? What does your Preferences/Performance show for your curernt GPU/Graphics Card?

Correcting myself, I believe the feathering indicator is the inner circle rather than the outer one. Still, it's not there.
