Brush tool rendering problem on 3D objects

I've recently had a problem with the brush tool when painting on 3D objects. As you can see from the pictures, it creates a straight edge, square-like shape where I've painted on the object with the brush tool. If I rotate the object, the hard edge goes away and displays it as normal, as seen in the second picture. Also, the brush tool marks much larger than the actual size of it. I've tried resetting the brush tool, updating my computer, updating Photoshop, and even restoring my computer to a backup because this problem wasn't happening last week when I tested painting on a 3D object. Why is this happening and how can I fix it? Thanks to whoever can help me with this problem. It makes painting on objects difficult and time consuming. The two screenshots are of two different models, so the issue isn't model-specific.

Is you Mac Display driver up to date. 3d Requires use of a GPU.  I do not see any problem on my Windows machine like yours even when I zoom way in. Windows also displays the mesh when painting on the diffuse surface texture.

So today when I tested it again, the issue isn't happening, but the brush size is still bigger than the actual size of it. Any thoughts as to why that problem is happening?

The "square edged"  issue looks like a GPU issue on your system. I cannot replicate it here.

For the issue of painting  outside the brush, is that on the model or on the 2D opened texture ? If it is on the model, try changing the paint system to Projection and see if it helps.

To test the render (as advised by USSNorway) make a rectangular selection around part of the image and Press Alt+Shift+Ctrl+R. The Render will start but only for that selected area so you can quickly see what the render will look like..

Cmd+Opt+Shift+R for macOS (or in the top menu: 3D> Render 3D Layer) You can cancel the rendering with ESC key. The thought is to check the GPU vs. CPU rendering to isolate the issue. Interaction uses GPU (video card), and Render uses CPU.

I'm not sure what the bigger brush mark size might be showing other than projection method as Dave suggests, or maybe a UV map scaling issue.

cheers,

steve

agree this is a GPU issue which makes it local system only and not Photoshop

as a side note the UV map can be repaired in Photoshop but Dimension has an automatic repair UV tool in the lastest build that does a good job i.e, it offers to repair any UV map on import and the user can press yes or no to it

The weird this is, it's an intermittent issue. Sometimes the render square thing happens, sometimes it doesn't. Plus, I don't have any other applications open when I run photoshop. My GPU is the Intel Iris Plus Graphics 640 1536 MB with a 2.3 GHz Intel Core i5 processor. I'm not a computer buff, but my Macbook shouldn't have issues rendering brush marks. Also, the projection mode displays the correct size, so yes it's just a texture mode issue. When the file was tested on another Mac, the brush was its normal size in texture mode, so I don't think it's a UV map issue. I prefer painting in texture mode rather than projection.

the issue is almost always the local system just can't cope and I'd try a rendor as a test... if that makes the problem go away then yes its your g-card | drivers that need attention

I'm not sure what you mean by a "rendor" test? Could you clarify? Also, do you know why the brush tool mark is larger than the actual size of the brush? Thanks.
