BSOD on PS 25.12

Hey all

win 11 64 pro - PS 25.12

Have not seen a lot on here so just in case its not just me.

Last couple days getting blue screen of death   (BSOD)

But only when using PS 25.12 - happens using healing and cloning tools plus remove tool etc.

I have seen it mentioned on microsoft sites and its all with PS 2024 (25.12)

I have done most of the regular tricks (more stable etc.) but have not

turned off gpu yet. and have windows latest update and

latest nivida studio driver

anyone else out there having this issue?

or know how many versions back on 2024 you can go to have it stable? if at all.

I do not have and have not used the beta versions of any adobe stuff. so thats not it.

And I can use PS 2023 just fine and do anything that I want for hours.

VS PS 25.12 a couple minutes with healing etc. and boom    BSOD

so for my info and if anyone else is having same issues.

Thanks.

quick update

I decided to roll back PS to 25.7 and everything is fine again with no issues

with windows or updated nivida studio driver. not sure about best last version

some people still had issues with 25.9.11 and 25.9  etc. but for me  25.7 is stable.

Thanks

As promised.

Spent another 1/2 hour trying to bsod. stayed good

Then updated PS back to 25.12 and 45 minutes with no bsod.

So more or less good for now.

Just some info this was a 3 grand dell xps work station loaded (32 gigs)

But it is getting old (6 or 7 years) and if any of you have older dell stuff. you may notice that after 3 to 4 years.

You are pretty much on your own. And lots of stuff can not be updated. and more and more plug and

play stuff will no longer work.

For instance on the UHD 630 driver it is called out on dell web site as a critical need to update.

but for what ever reason when you check for compatability both at dell and intel my driver

can not be updated (without causing even more issues)

So I am very close to bitting the bullet and grabbing a new machine.

But this time plan on a mega PS machine from Puget.

But for time being, doing the graphics settings and putting PS and the sniffer on the

High performance nividia has done the trick.

I see some views to this topic but no replies. So some more FYI.

After some more investigation. (because I was still getting bsod even on 25.7, just took a couple minutes longer)

I saw some explanations that could be one of the display drivers was bad.

I have the intel uhd 630 and the nividia gtx 1080 studio

And and I do not believe I can update the UHD 630 (its the 2020 version on a dell xps 8930)

due to compatbility issues. And turning off gpu brings up too many issues.

but the nividia is updated (current and did had one from a couple months ago)

I did run into this from Sameer K from a while back.

Set up GPU for High Performance in Photoshop - 🔎 ... - Adobe Community - 13504734

just copied the link not sure if it will work here in forum (even though its from Adobe community)

but just in case. I could not use the first option.

And I had to scroll down to other gpus configurations steps/instructions. As in had to set in Graphics settings

instead of nividia control panel which would not work.

and then I did set photoshop and the sniffer to the High Performance options

instead of letting windows decide.

I am still reverted back to 25.7 but now seems to be ok did 1/2 hour of cloning

healing -remove tool and spot and did not get bsod so tomorow will try again for longer

and if stll good I will update back to 25.12 and see how that go's

So maybe I got an answer from Sameer K.     Just not from his response here to this topic.

We will see. If anyones interested, check back in a day or 2 and I will update if alls right with the world for the time being.

Thanks

Sameer K

not sure about the '@ mention' deal

But as to my issue. Are you a PS windows guru?

I put this up because a couple weeks ago everyone using beta was crashing on windows

and they all had to remove their beta apps.

So I did not know if this was kind of related.

So I was here for info for me and info for others who might get similar issues.

And I am not going to go thru a ton of hoops right now.

I am back to pausing my windows updates for a few weeks.

And I am going to start waiting a few weeks on adobe updates as well from now on.

For those on windows though, this update -

KB5043145 update that confirmed Windows 11 22H2 and 23H2 users might see problems

is an issue. but not mine as my last patch was KB5043076  so not sure whats up.

But like I said I have decided to back off from updating

Windows and Photoshop and lightroom for a few weeks on all new updates to let the bugs come out.

And really 90% of  PS and Lightroom upgrades lately are gen ai in one way or

another. Which I am not using very much so I would not be losing out anyway.

And I am not using beta for exactly these type issues.

See Ya.

Hey, @James Schei. Welcome to the Photoshop Community. I'll need more info to help you figure this out. Please share the system info from Photoshop Help > System info > Copy & paste into a text document > upload & attach here. I couldn't find crash reports submitted with the account you've signed in to the community with. If you see a crash dialogue, submit it with your Adobe ID. Check here for more steps: https://adobe.ly/3Wpjx0B

I'll move this to discussions for now. If the whole machine is crashing, it could be a broader issue with resources, power & the OS that gets triggered when the hardware is pushed in a specific way.

In some cases, over or under clocking GPU, CPU & RAM cause system-wide instability. Please check the Event Viewer > Windows Logs > Application Logs section on Windows for recent events that point to a critical, or error reports.

Try using the latest Photoshop (beta) from the Beta Apps section in Creative Cloud & check if the issue exists.

Let me know how it goes.

Thanks!
