C2PAWS Files generated when I create new docs in Photoshop

The title says it all. Since updating to PS 2024, the PSD files I create generate an additional .c2paws file (doesn't happen with those I created in the old version and then open, and save with 2024)

they cannot be opened with anything present on my computer, but they contain data

In this screenshot, it displays the PS logo as I told windows to open it with Photoshop. Result: Wrong type of file.

Not sure it's a bug or not, but I know that I didn't change my preferences since I updated to Photoshop 2024 (transfered prefs)
A search on Google or this forum doesn't return anything.

Have I done something wrong?

You are not alone; I've just recently started getting these c2paws files. I, too, have searched and can find nothing. I think it might have something to do with opening the photo from camera raw. I'm wondering if it is when I save it as an object or a copy. But I certainly don't need it taking up twice as much space on my hard drive. I'm hoping I can just delete them, but got no answer from Adobe. Donna

It's still hapenning and with file types it's not supposed to happen with 🙂
You can safely delete them, that's what I do.
They're adjacent files that serve to identify (for lack of a better word) files that are tied to the content credential settings in your preferences

The thing is: I'm happy for these to appear for file types they are meant to appear with (namely Jpeg and .PSD)

Not with every file: TIFFs, PNGs etc...

You can run a search for this file type on your system (even using Bridge) and delete them in batch with no issues.

What's funny is that I always had Content Credential activated (even in the previous version) I actually activated it, ever since I became aware of it. I kept my 2023 version, checked the prefs, the prefs are the same as the new version (and creating a new file here doesn't generate any side file - and never have!)

Besides, one of the file is attached to a TIFF file (PSD saved as TIFF)
The link you attached only state it works for JPGS and PNG (Not tiffs)

My preferences have always been publish to cloud, and not "attach a file" both in 2023 version and the 2024 version.

That's why I thought it was a bug, because I didn't change any preferences (Content credencial or otherwise) and the result is different between the two versions.

I really don't want to disable it, as I find a useful thing. The only thing that prevents me to apply it to every file I work on, is that we cannot list co-owners (As someone who retouch other people's photos, I would hate being listed as the only owner), but I already talked about that to someone from Adobe who hopefully will pass on the information to the team.
