Hey, @LarryK41 . Welcome to the Photoshop Community. I'll help you figure this out.

You can add any number of external drives as a scratch disk in Photoshop. You'll need the additional disks to be formatted in the following supported drive formats:

  • macOS: APFS, macOS Extended (Journaled)
  • Windows: NTFS, exFAT, FAT32

Thanks!

It not a question of using a different drive, which I do  for Photoshop. From chatGPT it recommended usiig a redirected link in C:\Users\USER\AppData\Local\Adobe\Lightroom CC\Data which I did.

So problem solved.

From chatGPT,

Steps to Redirect Lightroom Desktop Cache

  1. Close Lightroom Desktop: Ensure that Lightroom Desktop is not running.

  2. Open Command Prompt as Administrator:

    • Click on the Start menu.

    • Type cmd in the search bar.

    • Right-click on Command Prompt and select Run as administrator.

  3. Execute the Following Commands:
Replace <YourUsername> with your actual Windows username.

    cmd
    CopyEdit
cd "C:\Users\<YourUsername>\AppData\Local\Adobe\Lightroom CC" ren Data Data_backup mklink /D Data "W:\LightroomCache"

    Explanation:

    • cd navigates to the Lightroom CC directory.

    • ren renames the existing Data folder to Data_backup as a precaution.

    • mklink /D creates a symbolic link named Data that points to W:\LightroomCache.

  4. Verify the Symbolic Link:

    • Navigate to C:\Users\<YourUsername>\AppData\Local\Adobe\Lightroom CC.

    • You should see a folder named Data with a shortcut icon, indicating it's a symbolic link.

  5. Restart Lightroom Desktop:

    • Open Lightroom Desktop. It will now use the cache located at W:\LightroomCache.Adobe Help Center

Note: If everything works as expected, you can delete the Data_backup folder to free up space.
