Camera Raw support

Hi,

again the question about Camera raw support. I have Photoshop CS6 (not CC) and this support camera raw plugin version 9.1.1.461. I am not able to update to any other or newer version. I have Nikon d7500 and I cannot open raw files. When I want to open two raw files from Lightroom as layers in photoshop then photoshop reports that i need version 10.1 or newer. But 10.1 is not working with my CS6.

I am not enjoying investing my money into adobe product with such a terrible support. I just need to open my photos in my legally bought software and I do not want to buy newer version of photoshop because of such a thing!!!

Is there any solution or is it another business trick made by ADOBE???

Consider installing a free Adobe DNG converter.

One of these days, I'm going to sit down and try to figure out why all these people who bought CS6 six years ago, six major versions back, feel they deserve to be kept up to date for free.

    But not today.

Adobe have to go out and buy each camera as it comes on the market, and a team then spends weeks reverse engineering how to read the RAW format. Not too difficult, but who is going to pay if this is free?

As a photographer, will you rework a major photo project after 5 years because the client has changed their requirements - and will you charge them for this?

CS6 was supported for five years from its initial release, like most Adobe products. So now support is finished. For some reason, all the work developers put into supporting new systems and devices is something many people expect to be given away free. But this amounts to subsidising the camera makers, and Apple and Microsoft. Perhaps you think these poor companies should be subsidised; personally I don't. Where does the expectation of "lifetime support" come from, you don't get it with other products...?

What kind of support do you mean?? I just need camera type update - that´s all, or is it too difficult for adobe proffesionals to continue with such a little support - for their dear clients? Or is Photoshop CC so different software that would be impossible to keep camera type support actual for CS6??? Probably yes. No I really do not need lifetime support, I just want to continue to use my software without limitations. Anyway, thank you for your kind instruction.

Alternatively, camera makers could all include a "Save to DNG" option in their camera settings in addition to RAW and JPG. Then no-one would have to update their Camera Raw plugins and you could continue using your software without limitations regardless of what camera you use.

Then Adobe - and others - could get on with adding new and improved features to their software rather than wasting resources chasing after new camera file formats every day and issuing free updates for Camera Raw and the DNG converter every couple of months.

Adobe invented and released the DNG spec for exactly that reason. Then consumers would not be inconvenienced and everyone could get on with creating and innovating.

But the camera makers have largely chosen not to include DNG in their cameras leaving Adobe - Capture One, OnOne and others - to get blamed for not providing free updates for new cameras for legacy software forever.
