Question

Can brush tool or mixer brush tool duplicate exact images?

I want to be able to create a brush using an image, so that the exact image is replicated. Not just the shape of the image. I have a png illustration of a leaf that I want to be able to replicate by the hundreds as part of the creation of a tree. The leaf has a green blade, yellowish tint here and there, some red spots. So, how can I make a brush that would allow me to paint on that exact leaf, green blade, yellowish tint, red spots and all, by the hundreds? I hope I'm making sense.  I saw a 3-year-old tutorial that showed how to do this using the mixer brush tool. But I can't seem to recreate his technique using PS CC 2023. I am able to create a brush that uses the shape of this particular leaf. But, alas, then I'm only able to paint solid color leaves with blending mode and transparency options. Not what I want.

If Illustrator is an option you might want to look into the Symbol Sprayer Tool. There are also many associated tools that might help such as the Symbol Sizer Tool and the Symbol Spinner Tool.
