Holding down ALT while painting in Photoshop will choose the color under the cursor and make it the current foreground color. Also, when holding down ALT, the 'eyedropper' icon appears.
It may seem minor, but waiting for the eyedropper icon to appear does infact cause a slight delay between the time when ALT is pressed down and when the color under cursor actually becomes the foreground color. This delay is caused as a result of Photoshop waiting for the eyedropper icon to appear.
Yes, it is quite a minor delay, but enough of a delay to interrupt the digital painting process, especially when trying to pick up colors under the cursor on-the-fly.
The question is, can it be possible to disable the eyedropper icon from appearing? In other words, when pressing ALT, the color under the cursor is picked up *immediately* and it doesn't have to wait for the icon to appear first. So when we press ALT, nothing visually happens at the cursor; instead the only thing that happens is that the foreground color changes immediately to whatever color in beneath the cursor at that time. This would help speed up the painting process when constant color-changing as a result of ALT is required. Right now, there is a slight delay, and a;lthough neglible, it is enough of a delay to slow things down.
Barring this, could there be an alternative way to sample color under cursor and make it the foreground color? Perhaps through scripting or other means?
Thank you to all who took the time to consider this.

The delay is not caused by loading the eye dropper icon. Switching between brush (b) and the eyedropper (i) is instantly. There need to be a different reason, probably OS related.
