Hello, I am preparing an illustration for children, It is a vector illustration. I am trying very hard to capture a green field vibe in Illustrator but no way I could pull it. But I draw the green field, using some cute brushes in Photoshop and the end result is amazing. I saved the document in CMYK mode as JPEG. I want to use this JPEG as my main background in the Illustrator file. I wanna use this as my background in the AI file along with other vector illustrations above/on it. My question is can I do that? Or it will create a problem during printing when I provide the print-ready file to my client? Please help.

Yes, you can use a raster image files as a basis in an Illustrator file, for building vector data over it. But it will still be raster data and vector tools in Illustrator will not be available to that raster layer. It will display and print, but you can't do anything to it.

@Suraiya A sorry for the confusion. You can save your Photoshop background and then use Place in Illustrator to add it to your file.

Hi @Suraiya A as long as you have your raster graphic sized properly with the right resolution, it should work fine as a background image in Illustrator. Make sure its either embeeded or linked when creating your PDF for the client.
