Can not deselect in photoshop

Hi,

 

I can not deselect in Photoshop, not with command + D and not by deselecting from the menu, the area is greyed out.  Please help, it's driving me nuts.

As mentioned by @c.pfaffenbichler do you have an active selection and can you post a screenshot of the full interface

No need to give up, there's always plenty of help on this forum.

All the tools have shortcuts, if you hover the mouse over each tool it will disaply the shortcut for that tool

Can you post a screenshot of the Photoshop interface will all the pertinent panels opened
