Background:

I have Adobe Master Collection CS6.

I purchased a Sony a6000 camera which used .arw raw files.

I updated PS and it worked fine.

I then purchased a Sony a6300 camera which also uses .arw raw files.

I also updated PS to camera raw viewer 9.6.1.

Still could not open the file.

I need help!

Correct answer John Waller

The Camera raw 9.6.1 seemed to install ok but I don't know

how to verify this.

The last version of Camera Raw which is compatible with CS6 is 9.1.1.

So even if you go through the motions of installing a later version of Camera Raw, it won't be updated in CS6.

To verify: in Photoshop, click Help (Win) or Photoshop (Mac) > About Plug-Ins > Camera Raw

How would downloading and install the DNG converter 9.6.1 help me to work

in Camera RAW?

If you stay with CS6, don't join the Cloud and need to open Raw files from a camera (such as your A6000) which requires a later version of Camera Raw than your version of Photoshop is compatible with then your only choice is to use the DNG converter and work with DNG files.

Troubleshoot Adobe Camera Raw Compatibility Photoshop Lightroom

Download the free Adobe DNG converter, batch convert all ARW Raw files to DNG format then edit the DNG files in CS6. An extra step for you but no extra cost.

Hi stevenoble,

In order to open images from Sony A6300 you need atleast Camera raw 9.5 or above.

However Photoshop CS6 can update maximum to Camera raw 9.1.1, so I would suggest you to either download and install DNG converter 9.6.1 or upgrade Photoshop to the most recent version of Photoshop creative cloud.
