Can’t erase selection

Hi there, I hope someone can help me. I just started a new project on photoshop on my iPad but for some reason when I select an area with the selection tool I can not erase it. The bar show up but where I normally can duplicate and erase it now won't let me. I don't understand what I have done wrong.

Does it deselect when you press Ctrl/Cmd + D?

I actually found the solution, thanks for your reply though. Had to turn it
in to layers then I could delete again.
