can't find hidden layer?

Advisor ,
May 12, 2023 May 12, 2023

The top tile border in the screen shot below shows a much lighter top 20% (of the tile border) than what's below it, and the hard edge would seem to indicate that there is another layer somewhere, but the only Layer (other than Adjustment Layers) the reads for both areas is Layer 0.  Morevoer, when I toggle all of the Adjustment Layers for the upper area, none of them result in a uniform exposure and saturation as the lower area.  What is creating the lighter strip at the top?  Thanks.

Photoshop > Discussions is the correct forum for your post.

It's hard to tell by looking at your screenshot, especially with the generic names for the layers. You have narrowed the choices down to eight. You also have hidden layers that we can't see (notice the scroll bars), so we don't get the whole picture.

Not sure why you think that - this is in "Discussions" in the Photoshop ecosystem, and this post is about Photoshop.

  • You might also Option(Alt) + click the eyeball on each of the six to hide the other layers. Repeat to show again.

Do either of these help?

Thank you, Jane.  I have pasted a screen shot which shows the remaining (upper) layers.  But using your suggestion in your first bullet above, I think I may have identified the problem.  When clicking on Curves 7, the top light strip was selected.  The 2nd screen shot doesn't show the marching ants, but does show the strip before adjusting.  Screen shot 3 shows what happened to the strip when I brough the curve down, matching what was below it.  Curves 7 is a Curves adjustment layer which, as can be seen, was filled with black and then applied to a portion of the image towards the right middle.  It's not clear to me why the top of the image is being affected, but I'm glad I know which layer to work with.  Thank you.

Are you differentiating between "Photoshop ecosystem" and "Photoshop?"  Because I don't see just "Photoshop" - see screen shot below, which shows "Photoshop" paired with the word "ecosystem."  What am I missing here?

You're welcome, @bartonlew , I'm glad this helped. 🙂

As for the "ecosystem", that's the name they picked when they included Photoshop for iPad as well as Ideas and Bugs. All of these used to be in separate forums. Photoshop Ecosystem is the correct forum for Photoshop (but most of us continue to leave off the word "ecosystem".)

When folks post to the wrong forum by mistake, we can easily move posts to the forum more suited to their question. You're fine! 😊
