Can't have both Menus and Workspace

  • September 14, 2019

When I go to Windows > Workspace, if I check my workspace it unchecks Essentials & I lose Menus and vice versa. If I check Essentials I get Menus but it unchecks my workspace and it becomes floating and overlaps the image. My real workspace is docked to the main upper bar and does not float nor allow the image to overlap

How do I fix this?

Are you saying the when you reset the Essentials Workspace all of your menus disappear? Please show a larger screenshot. If I’m understanding the issue, then I haven’t heard of that happening before. You may need to reset your Photoshop Preferences > General > Reset Preferences on Quit, then Quit and restart Photoshop.

Be sure to BACKUP anything you have created such as swatches, brushes, actions, etc., first.

You call it Essentials Workspace, I just call it Essentials but yes.

Hi Jim,

Both of your replies showed up, 5 minutes apart. Because you did both replies to @davescm, you have to go to his message and click “View All Replies” to see your two nested replies. It’s best to click the Blue Reply button by your original post. See this screen shot, then go to his post.

Hi Jim,

I apologize, but I did not see your earlier response come in two days after your first post.

I don’t understand what is happening — either from what you said or from your screen shots.

  • When you go to Windows > Workspace and check your Workspace
what is the name of that workspace?

  • You lose the Menus and vice versa
Menu visibility can be included in a saved Workspace. Which menus get hidden in which workspace?

  • When you check Essentials you get menus but it unchecks your workspace and becomes floating and overlaps the image
Is this what you are calling your Essential Workspace? Go to Window > Workspace > Reset Essentials. It’s been customized. Resetting it will dock it and put it back to its defaults.

  • My real workspace is docked...
Which workspace is your “real” workspace? Are you having any issues with it?

Is the only problem the one with the Essentials workspace? If so, resetting it will fix it. Otherwise, please clarify the issue, and I’ll try to watch for your answer.

It looks like you need to either:

1. Reset your workspace - select it then choose reset workspace.

or

2. Recreate your workspace. Start by opening one of the standard workspaces. Move panels etc the way you like them. Save the workspace with a new name that you have not yet used.

I take it from the lack of responses, no one here knows how to fix this.

This is the first chance I've had to get back to this.  It's not clear how screenshots will help but here they are?

Hi

Set your workspace as you wish it to be, then Save your Workspace with the same name (Window menu). Switch to Essentials and Reset it. Does it work now to switch between them? If not, show screen shots.
