Can't preserve layers or editing capabilities

I recently updated Photoshop to the 2018 version, but whenever I try to save my work it keeps saying "Preserve Photoshop Editing Capabilities" is incompatible with earlier versions of Photoshop. In earlier versions, you must open the PDF as a Generic PDF (not as a Photoshop PDF). How do I save my work and close it so I can come back to it later with the separate layers and everything preserved?

    Correct answer Test Screen Name

Save as a PSD, as always.
