Can't type text on path

I can't write text along a path in the latest Photoshop, Windows 10 64 bit. It either does nothing or only types one to three characters then stops. Is this a bug?
The text updates properly in the layer panel but not on screen in the document, very strange.

    Please show a screenshot of the text and path. Have you dragged the text handles, using the path selection tool (the cursor will change),  which show the left and right limits of the text?

      @cgidude it's working fine for me with Photoshop version 25.3.1 on Windows 10, have you tried resetting the Tools

      If that doesn't help try manually resetting your Photoshop preferences
