Can't wrap text within shape

Hi,

I've watched numerous videos on how to wrap text in a shape in photoshop which seems quite easy.  However, the T with dotted square never changes into a T with a dotted circle when I click in the shape and so the text doesn't wrap.

What am I doing wrong?

Your Type tool has rectangular dotted lines. It needs an ellipse to work.

  • Delete your current shape
  • Reset the tool: right click it in the options bar (not Tools panel)
  • Confirm the mode is "Path" and draw a new heart
  • Select the Type tool and hover over the empty area. Do you have the right shape around your Type tool? If so, click and start typing

Can you post a screen shot of your layers and everything. Once you create the shape, just moving the cursor into the shape should change the cursor. Maybe you need to reset your preferences.

Thanks for your quick response,  don't know if the screenshot is any help.  As you can see the dotted square does not change into a dotted circle when I click in the shape.

Please post proper screenshots including all pertinent Panels (Toolbar, Options Bar, Paths, … and the menu bar) and not clipped photographs of your monitor.

Which Photoshop version are you using?

@Krystle S

You're welcome, Krystal. One more tip: open the Paragraph panel (Window menu) and try the paragraph alignment options there to find the best one, as there are more choices there than in the options bar.

You should be able to use Text inside path on any enclosed path (shape)

The problem with the Heart shape you selected is it's not a closed path.

You can find and fix this by selecting the Pen Tool, hovering over the points until the Pen tool cursor displays

as below, then double click on the point to close the path.

Screenshot-(753).png

Unfortunately, there are many shapes that ship with photoshop that are not closed for whatever reason, so if you can't type inside a shape, that's one of the things to check for.

The particular Shape used here is under Legacy Shapes and More>All Legacy Default Shapes>Shapes>Heart
