Question

Can We Load RAW files into a Stack in Photoshop?

Hi.

I'm opening my RAWs into Photoshop, adjusting them together, but then I need to open them as a stack to perform further functions. I thought there was a way to do this from the raw window that wasn't just saving them as DNG files. Is there a way?

Not directly from ACR, but if you click on Done to close them after applying changes, and from Bridge go Tools > Photoshop > Load into layers then they will stack with the ACR edits applied.

Files >> Scripts >> Load files into stack

The attempt to auto align images is very useful when you have for example files with multiples exposure or focal ranges.

Load file into a stack will open your RAW rile through ACR for that is how Photoshop Opens RAW files.  The layers will be in a single document and they will raster layers not smart object layers. Even if your ACR preferences are set to open RAW files as  smart object layers.  The Load Files into a stack script and the Stack Scripts it uses creates a stack of normal images raster layers. So your ACR setting for each image may be used during the RAW conversions because you have previously process the RAW files but the layer in the stack will be raster layers.

By “stack” to you mean one document with layers for each?

You can either:

  1. From ACR > Select all > Click Open Image to open unsaved files with PS

    or

  2. From ACR > Select all > Save Images > Go to Bridge and Select > Photoshop > Load Files into PS Layers

Hi Jane,
Thanks for your response. Correct - I'm trying to go directly from ACR into a single document with all the images stacked as layers. The same thing you get when you go File > Scripts > Load Files Into Stack. I'm trying to do this without needing to save new files.

Your first method would open them all as separate documents, and your second method requires saving. My goal is to go directly into a stack from ACR without saving.

Hi,

That’s what I thought you wanted. The script Mike mentioned also requires saved files.
