Can you desaturate a layer and target a specific hue to stand out?

Hello everyone

I desaturated a layer and using the hue/sat adjustment layer, targeted the central figure to stand out in colour. The color picker in the hue/sat adjustment picked red, but it didn't affect any change.
Where am I going wrong?

Please help
Thanks

You either need to use a selection or mask, so that the hero has colour while the rest of the images doesn't.

@JimmyPage11 TO madd a bit more to @Stephen Marsh 's tips -  Do your desaturation in an adjustment layer, rather than direct on the image - then use a mask on thatadjustment layer to keep the adjustment off the hero figure.

I hope this helps
