If you can't recover the file with recovery software, it's permanently damaged/corrupted.

 

I'd be more concerned with where the corruption happens - usually a drive about to fail, or possibly bad RAM. If you haven't already, make backups ASAP! Don't do anything, just copy everything off disk. The main thing is to stop further corruption.
