Question

Cannot change foreground/background color in latest version (25.9.1)!!!

Hi all,

I'm using Adobe Photoshop 2024 for Windows, and am unable to change the foreground / background colors of an image.  It is currently set to a black foreground and a white background.  I've clicked on the arrows, hit X, and everything else I've found online, but nothing seems to work.  Perhaps this is a stupid question, but what am I missing?  All online tutorials for how to do this show a version of Photoshop that allows users to bring up the color picker by clicking on the smaller black/white squares.  Or by simply hitting the X key the two squares switch places.  None of that works in my version.  See attached image of the swatches at the bottom of my version.

Please help!

Please maximise the program window first.

Because in your screenshot we can only see the small symbol for the standard colours (this symbol does not change) - but unfortunately you/we cannot see the symbols for the foreground and background colours.

Then please also open the colour panel [F6]

If you still cannot set the colours, please show us a fullscreen screenshot.

Could you please post complete screenshots with the pertinent Panels (Toolbar, Layers, Options Bar, …) visible?

What do you want to use the Fore- and Background Colors for – painting, …?
