Cannot figure out why Transparency refuses to work with Alpha channel

I'm trying to make a TGA transparent. I must have been lied to.

I:

- Have my one and only object on one layer. Nothing behind it. It's transparent.

- I create an Alpha channel. Select my object (Alpha layer is all black by default) and fill in with WHITE.

Save it as TGA and make sure Alpha Channels are included when saving.

WHITE BACKGROUND.

Is this a CS6 issue, perhaps? Regardless. The process is straightforward.

Make sure you save in 32bit.
Make sure you have only one alpha channel.
When you re-open the file, you should see this alpha channel.

As far as I know, Photoshop does not preserve transparency in TGA for the most part. When you open a file in Photoshop, you won't see transparency.
It can be seen when opening the TGA in other programs / viewers (in the presence of a saved alpha channel).

Saved in 32Bit as well. I kept thinking wrong mode, but nah. I don't think it matters. I actually got it right earlier. I have no idea what kind of nonsense this is.

Layers.

Channels. Alpha Channel always defaults to not visible when opening the PSD which is strange. Also the same for when I save as Targa. It opens in Photoshop and the Alpha channel is always not visible (the eye icon). I filled in the actual part that has to be visible with white. No idea.

Channel when I select it.

I was going to do a step-by-step of how I do it... but it's really simple. I literally watch a 3 minute video tutorial and it's not working.

Well, you saved the tga with the alpha channel.
What's next? What didn't you like?

The background is white.

I think we need a screen shot of your both your Layers and Channels panels. If you select your object first, then save the selection front the Select menu, your Alpha channel should not be all black or all white.
