Canon ipf5100 printer plug-in cause Photoshop CC 2019 to crash

I have a Canon imageprograf 5100 printer and have always used the Photoshop plug-in to print with it no problem.

Since the update to CC 2019 I have updated to Canon's latest release of the Photoshop plug-in and printer driver, and have updated to Mac OS Mojave so all should be compatible in theory.

However, I open my file, go to export, print to ipf5100 plug-in, all seems fine, click print, progress bar appears, print monitor opens, then Photoshop unexpectedly quits every time. Tried going back to Photoshop CC 2018 and different driver and plug-in versions so much that I've lost track, nothing seems to work.

Really need some help on this. Any ideas?

Hi all

Looks like there's a new driver for the Photoshop Plug In: imagePROGRAF Print Plug-In for Photoshop/Digital Photo Professional & Layout Plug-In Ver.6.01 (Mac)

Hopefully this will be the resolution.

Yes! Got a new driver update for my ipf5100 too, just downloaded and managed to print with success. Thank goodness!

Hope you had success too.

Have to say, the print monitor app was very slow to open and there was a lot of fan whirring coming from my MacBook so still not sure we're totally out of the dark but at least can print without crashes or errors at last.

Success. Cheers all...until the next upgrade.

Exactly the same problem here. Ipf6400, latest PS CC, latest drivers etc. Before the latest Canon driver update it would crash PS on spooling, but at least I could get a print off, now it won’t open at all and I get the same warning as the other poster above. A real pain.

Same issue here as well. CC2019, Canon ipf8400, Mojave OSX. For me, it was updating my OS to Mojave. This required me to update the Canon plugin and now it crashes every time I go to print. I'm glad that at least Canon is aware of it. But as of 4/3/19, there is no updated plugin for the 8400 (still says 12/10/18 as the lastest). So we wait...

Hi all,

I have just checked the Canon website again and there is a new release of the printer driver for my model (ipf5100) at least. I am downloading now so we shall see if it changed anything. So just a heads up you may want to see if there are any updates for your models too overheadrailsOrtizDesigned. My update was only released March 29th.

If not I would urge you all to contact Canon support yourself to press them to sort the issues out, and perhaps reference this thread too. This is the address I used to speak to someone from the correct department: CCT2_WFSERVICE@CUK.CANON.CO.UK - Daniel Potts. The more of us making a fuss about it the better.

Thanks for the heads up.

There is also a new driver for the iPF6450. Great news.

Except...

now the imagePROGRAF Print Plug-In for Photoshop/Digital Photo Professional & Layout Plug-In Ver.6.00 (Mac) doesn't even load up. It hasn't been updated so all I get is:

The desired imagePROGRAF Printer Driver is either not installed correctly or not installed at all. The latest version of the imagePROGRAF printer driver must be installed.

So there's clearly a clash with the old Plug In and the new Driver.

I can print via the standard print dialog but the plug-in is where I the functionality is and less opportunity for profile issues.

Will email Canon.

Thanks

Yep, just got around to trying printing since the update and I have the exact same issue!

This is getting very tedious.

Can't seem to get back to using the old driver now either. My Mac seems to default to the new software even after re-installing an older driver version. Any ideas how to fix this? I can't print at all now.

I, too, have the sudden onset (Tuesday 19 March) of this with two separate printers. But CC crashes before one even gets to specify which printer to use. One is a Samsung, the other a Canon PRO 1000 A3 printer. Both printers work OK with other software and the Canon self-diagnoses as OK.

File > Print crashes immediately, without notification. The Canon proprietary plug in will run if you have no picture loaded, by also crashes instantly is there is a picture present. Everything was fine, with very similar images, just last week.

Using P/shop CC 20.0.4 20190227.r.76 2019/02/27: 1205725  x64 on WinPro 7.

Hi tobym,

We're really sorry for the crash issue you are facing while using your Canon printer with Photoshop. Could you please share the crash logs with us?

Also, if you are using Photoshop CC 20.0.3 version then, enable the "Legacy Compositing" in Photoshop preferences and check if that helps.

Open Photoshop > Preferences > Performance tab > Enable "Legacy Compositing" > Restart Photoshop.

Regards,

Mohit
