Question

Canvas Size Automatically Changing when Animating

Using - PHOTOSHOP 19.1.3

Hey,

I'm trying to create a basic GIF, but for some reason when I got to animate my frames... anything I move outside of the canvas is then automatically causing the canvas size to stretch to let it fit?? It's weird. It's clear in the timeline frames that the canvas is expanding each time.

I haven't previously had this issue. At the moment I can't do anything!

Any tips??

Hi Adam

That is strange.  Can you describe your workflow, or how you think the canvas has been enlarged?

I'm think that if you check the image size, rather than canvas, then it will remain unchanged.

Photoshop does remember the position of objects beyond the canvas boundaries though, unless you crop (with Delete cropped pixels checked) Or flatten, but that kills the frame animation anyway.

So if you position the object outside the visible canvas area and Free Transform, it shows the object outside.

Or Ctrl click the object layer with frame 1 selected, the marching ants appear outside the canvas.

But the actual image size will have remained unchanged.  Is that what is happening, or have you discovered something strange going on?

Could you please post screenshots taken at View > 100% with the pertinent Panels (Layers, Timeline, Options Bar, …) visible?
