Canvas size for a poster

Hi! So I have to paint a large drawing that later I will print. The sizes that I started working were 150 x 56 cm, 300 resolution. The problem is that the brushes strokes and the program in general goes really slow. I don't have a problem lowering the size, but I'm not sure if it will have the same detail when I print it in the original sizes (around 150 x 50). So, can I print a drawing in a large format if I work in a lower size? Or will it be blurry?

Sorry for my english, thanks in advance!

Hi

The key question is - from what distance will the image be viewed?

When we use a larger canvas we don't view it from 30-60cm the way we we would view a print in a book. Instead we view it from a distance so that we can take in the whole image.  From that distance our eyes cannot perceive the same pixel resolution so continuing to produce detail at 300 ppi is a waste.

For a 150cm x 56cm print the viewing distance would be around 1.5-2 metres. At that distance our eyes cannot resolve any more than 118ppi so a document of 6900 x 2600 px will be fine and much easier to work with than the  17550 x 6552 that you were proposing.

The attached page gives more info.
