CC 2019: Transform Proportionally by Default

Participant ,

While I applaud several of the updates to CC 2019, this one is a total head-scratcher. Why would I want one application to suddenly start behaving completely contrary to every other design application? What's more, why would Adobe then set shift-drag—SOP for resizing proportionally in ALL design applications for at least the last 25 years—to do THE COMPLETE OPPOSITE and scale non-proportionally.

Luckily, Adobe has provided us with a "simple" fix: create a UserConfig.txt file and place it in the app preferences directory at the root level. First of all: Why? Was there not space for a checkbox in the application or tool preferences? Second: Tried it, doesn't work for me. I'll try it again.

Also: Are we now no longer able to choose a point of origin for transforming? I don't always scale to the center point, but am no longer able to choose bottom center/top right/etc. as the origin point. Is anyone else experiencing this same behavior?

Thanks in advance for any assistance/feedback. I'm sure this functionality will be just what someone (or perhaps many of you) wanted, but it's driving me crazy at this point.

Watch our for the check box if you uncheck it and you have moved the control point unchecking that box will reset the point to the center point.

Oh my goodness this makes me and everyone here crazy, like if after driving for 20 years they suddenly switched reverse/neutral/drive on your car, but only on some cars and now R is at the bottom. Then I go in to Illustrator and it's the old way still...

The .txt file does not work for me so far either...

All I can say is I hate it.

It is like a camera manufacturer suddenly putting the shutter speed dial on the lens (and I'm not talking a leaf shutter).

This is crazy. And I hate the way it fills text boxes with fake text.

They ought to stop tinkering with stuff like this and make software that is more stable. I have yet to be able to run InDesign without it freezing since upgrading.

Premiere is a nightmare, as well.

As long as I am learning new software, I might as well switch vendors, to one that does not require an annual license for headaches and charge users to beta test the product and create hidden files. Silly and irritating.

I completely agree - at every turn, something is different. InDesign freezes constantly and I have to end task and now this PS mess with transform! So frustrating. Oh and not to mention my annual subscription went up nearly $200!!!

Command + Shift + B is the only simple fix that has worked for me on Mac!

LATEST

I'm so confused, last year 2019's Photoshop for MAC at least, updated the standard (shift+click+drag) transform/resize aspect ratio to be click+drag by default to maintain the ratio, now, it looks as if the latest update 2020 has taken it back to legacy. Of course, right after I got used to not holding down SHIFT, it changes back and now I have to keep reminding my brain to now hold down shift again, so frustrating for such an easy task, but it is wasting my days.  Can ADOBE just pick one option here and stick with it, PLEASE?!

Does anyone know where I can change this back to 2019's default "no shift" option?   Thanks in advance!
