Change Text for Background Layer

Hello there! A quick question: Is there a way to change what the background layer's text is when you open Photoshop?

I'd like to change it so when I open up Photoshop, the locked background layer is titled 'Canvas' instead of 'Background'.

It isn't too important but I like the sound of 'canvas' better. It sound more artsy!

Thank you!

Fletcher

Unfortunately, "Background" (with a capital B) isn't just a name, it's an important concept in Photoshop. The Background layer has very specific properties compared to the other layers.

That's why, if you rename the Background layer, it's no longer a Background layer. Then it turns into a floating layer with other properties.

Then it turns into a floating layer with other properties.

And can be treated differently in other applications, in Indesign for example a psd file with a no Background Layer is considered »transparent« no matter if all the pixels are actually 100% opaque or not.
