Changes made via a filter plugin do not appear as a layer when applied

Photoshop 25.0.0

Windows 10 Pro 22H2 Build 19045.3448

Issue:  I make adjustments to an image by going to go to Filter/Plugin/ON1/ON1 Effects and making the change in ON1.  It used to be when I applied the changes they would come back into PS in their own layer.  That appears to have recently changed.  Now when I apply the changes they just merge into the layer I was working on.  It does this with my Boris plugin as well.  Any help would be appreciated.

TIA.

Have you tried to ask on ON1 community whether they made some changes? Perhaps plugins have settings or preferences that can be adjusted?

It's not an ON1 plugin issue. It's an older version that they're not making
updates to anymore, but has always worked. It also does it with other
plugins besides ON1.

I don't use the ON1 plugin but I do use Eye Candy 7 and that always creates a new layer, and I don't think there is an option to change that.  What I am saying is that it's a function of the plugin and not Photoshop.  What you can do — and something I wouldn't dream of doing any other way — is make the layer a Smart Object.  This gives you the option of opening the plugin as many times as you like to fine tune the settings, plus the is a mask that lets you mask out the effects of filters and plugins applied to the SO.
