Changing character's hand colour on photoshop

Hi All,

Hope everyone is well. 

I'm trying to change the colour on my character's hand, but to no avail. I'm using colour overlay, however the colour completely overpowers the black outline of the hand and fingers (please see examples). Wondering if anyone could help please in changing the colour of the hand, whist keeping the original black outline.

Try apply a Hue/Saturation Adjustment layer. Here's how:

1. Go to the bottom of the Layers panel, click on the middle icon, and select Hue/Saturation... (or go to Layer > New Adjustment Layer > Hue/Saturation...)
2. In the Properties panel, click on the finger with the arrows below Preset (your cursor will change to an eyedropper)
3. Click with the eyedropper tool on the hand color
4. Move the Hue slider to the desired color
5. Make additional adjustments for Saturation and Lightness as desired
