Changing existing font color

I upgraded to Photoshop 2020 but it does not allow me to change existing font colors. Should I back to a prevous version or use Illustrator to create fonts and import them into my PS project?

Can you confirm your steps? Do you have text selected with the Type tool and you are using the options bar or Character panel? We may need a screen shot.
