Clone Stamp Tool Not Working With Area "Selected"

I have been using Photoshop for many years on different devices and never had this issue until I updated a few months ago to the newest version.

I'm currently using PSCC 2019 on a Windows device. The problem is I Alt-Click an area and it still notifies me that I need to select an area, even though I have Alt-Clicked. I have tried:

Alt, release, click

Alt + click simutaneiously

Sample: all layers

Resetting the tool

Resetting the tool presets

Uninstalling and reinstalling Photoshop

Last time I called I was on hold for an insane amount of time and had to hang up before anyone got to me. If anyone can help me it would be greatly appreciated! I have 3 shoots coming up that I anticipate needing this tool for post!

I cannot replicate this problem.

Make sure that you have the most current update, Photoshop CC (version 20.0.4)

Michael Bullo's suggestion is a good one too because counter to what many think, uninstall/reinstall does not reset preferences.

If everything else is done correctly and resetting your preferences did not fix the problem then using the Adobe Cleaner like Barbara mentions is your best bet. Usually resetting your preferences does the trick.

First make sure that you have the current update installed for Photoshop CC 2019, version 20.0.4.

If the current update is installed and that doesn't fix the problem, even though you've already done uninstall/reinstall, try uninstall/reinstall using the Adobe CC Cleaner tool Use the CC Cleaner Tool for installation issues

I've had to use it a couple of time to resolve problems.

It looks like the one thing you haven't tried that often helps is to reset the Photoshop preferences.

Preferences in Photoshop

"Press and hold Alt+Control+Shift (Windows) or Option+Command+Shift (Mac OS) as you start Photoshop. You are prompted to delete the current settings. The new preferences files are created the next time you start Photoshop."

I tried this manually because using my keys did not work, and it still did not fix the problem. I'm starting to think there's an issue with my keyboard and Photoshop. Thanks for the recommendation though!

If you are potentially having keyboard issues that are preventing you from using the keyboard based method of resetting Photoshop's preferences there is another way. Inside the General section of the Preferences is the "Reset Preferences On Quit" button.
