Color change in copy/paste from clipboard

Hi ф5D24    When you make a screenshot / screen capture the RGB image data is in a specific colour space, the colour space of your display screen.

BUT no ICC profile is embedded on Windows when you do this 

If you want to paste that capture that into a photoshop document (which has its own colourspace) you'll need to

1: Assign the display screen ICC profile to it

[HOW TO: with the screenshot on the clipboard, go to File / new in Photoshop's menu to open a new Photoshop document,

this new doc. should automatically be the right size for your screenhot image,

now go to edit / assign profile in the Photoshop menu and Assign the display screen ICC profile]

(You may have to go to windows - control panel / display to see the current display profile name) 

2: convert the RGB data to the current colour space.

NOW the colour should be correct and the screenhot can be used in Photoshop.

Photoshops Edit / Color Settings dialog offers the option to "warn on pasting" 

maybe that is unchecked? With some settings presets it is not checked - see below for an example:

If "ask when pasting" were checked [as below] you should see a warning when pasting but its not a fix because the image on the clipboard has no embedded profile.

This is how it works and is supposed to work. There is no problem to fix.

You need to assign your monitor profile first, then convert to the color space you want (usually sRGB for most screenshot purposes).

Screenshots have already been converted into your monitor profile. They have monitor RGB numbers. The original document profile no longer applies.
