P: (Win/macOS) Photoshop Action Color labels change switching view modes

Community Beginner ,
Dec 22, 2023 Dec 22, 2023

Issue: Some of the photoshop Action colours are mapping to the wrong colour

  • Photoshop version: 25.2.0
  • OS: MacOS Sonoma 14.1.2

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Create an Action
  2. Choose List mode rather than Button Mode
  3. Double Click the action name to get Action Options
  4. Choose one of the following colours: Seafoam, Blue, Indigo, Magenta, Fuchsia, Violet or Grey
  5. Change back to Button Mode, the colour doesnt match what was selected. They are mapping to the following instead:

Seafoam becomes Blue

Blue becomes Violet

Indigo becomes Grey

Magenta becomes Seafoam

Fuchsia becomes Indigo

Violet becomes Magenta

Grey becomes Fuchsia

Expected result: The colour selected is what the action button is set to
Actual result: The colour is mapping to one of the colours mentioned above

Issue: I love the new color options (Seafoam, Indigo, Magenta, etc...) for the "labels" used for differentiating Layers and Actions in Button Mode. But it seems the integration of the new ones has cause some bugs. None of these ruin performance or functionality, but the whole range of colors can't currently be used in some states.

  • Photoshop version: Version: Photoshop CC (25.6)
  • OS: Windows 10 Pro N

Bug 01: When setting an Actions color in its settings, some of these do not change's its color correctly when swapped back to Button Mode.

Screenshot 2024-04-13 132032.jpg

Steps to Reproduce:

  1.  Enter an Actions Settings
  2.  Select Indigo in "Color" drop down.

Expected result: Action Button is Indigo in "Button Mode"
Actual result: Action Button is Grey in "Button Mode"

(Red, Orange, Green, and Blue can be selected appropriately, the rest do not make the button the correct color)

Bug 02: Restarting Photoshop resets these faulty mismatched colors to grey for the Action Buttons in Button Mode

Steps to Reproduce:

  1.  In Actions options, set "Color" to any of the new colors.
  2.  Enter Button Mode and close and restart Photoshop

Expected result: Action Buttons retain correct "New" colors
Actual result: Action Buttons previously set to new colors are now Grey in "Button Mode"

Before Closing:

After Closing:

Bug 03: (Minor) Drop down when selecting color labels for layers does not show colors when right-clicking the Visibility section of Layer

Steps to Reproduce:

  1.  Right click the visibility portion of the Layer UI

Expected result: Drop down list with color "swatches" and names
Actual result: List of colors does not have the color "swatches" next to them

When right clicking visibility section:

When right clicking Main Layer UI and navigating to drop-down menu:

Hope this helps! Thanks!

Yes. I am having the same issue, nothing has changed in any updates since you posted this. Kind of handy that you wrote them all down though, so I know which one to choose to get the right colour button in the end!

Im still seeing the issue too. I get excited with each release just in case it will have been fixed. I often refer back to this workaround list to get the right colours I actually want too! Fingers crossed its picked up soon!

The colours seem to map the same so I think it is linked. I will reference this issue in that chain too so its seen. Thanks for highlighting the connection

I was about to post about this. I'm using versions 25.9.1 and 25.11.0, and the bug still persists.

Hi All,

Issue: We have the ability to assign colors to actions, and these are visible once you swithch back to  button mode. What's happening is that I assign the color, and a different color shows up.

Additional Context:  I've been a pro retoucher using PS 40 hours a week since mid 90's PS 2.5.  A few years ago there were three new colors added. Indigo, Fuscia, and Seafoam. Since these color options are added, Nothing is prdeictable at all. If  I assign green, then blue might show up in button mode.  If I assign Fushia, I may get grey. I Sometimes I will get seafoam, indigo assigned properly,  so I save the actions. But when I reboot the next day, those colors change. I load up those saved actions and the colors are wonky again

More Context: It's the same situation across my 3 retouching workstations at home (spanning a few Mac OS generations back to Cheesegrater MP 5.1) and the same at my workstation at my 9-5 job.

Thanks

Hi @jackb_Chicago, Welcome to the Photoshop forums! Unfortunately, I could not recreate this issue on my Mac, but let's try to dive a bit deeper and figure this out. Can you send us a bit more information on how to recreate it, as well as screenshots or, ideally, screen recordings of what you're seeing? Can you also share your system info? You can find this by going to Help > System Info, copying and pasting it into a text file, and attaching it here.

In the meantime, please try the following:

1. Update Software: Ensure that Photoshop is updated to the latest version. Sometimes, bugs are fixed in newer releases, and updating can resolve unexpected behavior.

2. Reset Preferences: Resetting Photoshop preferences can often resolve issues related to unexpected behavior. To reset preferences - Press and hold Option + Command + Shift (Mac) while starting Photoshop. A dialog box will appear asking if you want to delete the settings file. Confirm to reset the preferences.
3. Reinstall Photoshop: If the issue persists, consider uninstalling and reinstalling Photoshop to ensure a clean installation.

4. Clear Cache: Clear the cache in Photoshop to resolve issues related to file handling and display. Go to Edit > Purge > All to clear the cache.

If none of these steps work, please send us your system info and screen recordings of your issue. Hope this helps! Thanks! ^CH

Hi Stephen,
Thanks so much for letting me know, much appreciated. It appears the bug did start appearing with the added colors Seafoam, Indigo, and Fuschia, that lines up with my experience as well.
