Question

Color Picker and Wacom Ek Remote Touch Ring

I recently switched to photoshop, and I have found that when I rest my finger on the touch ring of my remote, the cursor automatically switches to color picker and then back to brush when I lift my finger. As far as I can tell I don't have any shortcut that should do this. Although I could see this being useful it is super inconvenient for my workflow... If this is something I can change please let me know! I have a Wacom 24 Pro with the standard remote.

Normally, a Photoshop painting tool switches to the color sampler when the Option (Mac) or Alt (Windows) key is pressed. So it is possible that the Touch Ring is set up to send that type of input to Photoshop. If you find the Wacom settings on your computer, you should be able to change that Touch Ring behavior. If you aren’t sure what you want the Touch Ring to do, you can set it to Default, Application Defined, or Disabled.

Below are the settings for the Touch Ring on my Wacom tablet; mine is set to Scroll. What is your Touch Ring set to do?

I am pretty sure you were right about it being some kind of issue with the Alt hold functionality. However, I'm a little lost given that my ring(as far as I can tell) isn't set to interact with Photoshop in that way. Thanks for your help!

    Hi,

I'm not sure about the Hardware Controller you use, but for the shortcuts there are several you can use. Me personally I use the Xencelabs QuickKeys and the Loupedeck CT and I can assign all kinds of shortcuts to all of the Buttons.

Simply look at e.g. https://jkost.com/blog/2017/05/tips-for-working-with-color-in-photoshop-cc.html or https://academyclass.com/blog/photoshop-brush-tool-keyboard-shortcuts/ and assign to the Config of your tool. Hope that helps.

    regards,Henrik
