Question

Color Picker (Text Color) picking up slightly off color than the one I sampled - Photoshop 2025

Hi! I'm having trouble with my Color Picker (Text Color). It's not picking up the correct color, it's showing a lighter color than the one I'm sampling. All of the other color pickers work perfectly fine such as the Overlay Color, Stroke Color, Solid Color, etc., it's only the text color picker that's acting up. I can't figure out the setting that is causing this to happen. Does anyone know how to fix this issue? Thank you!

Bit late to the party but I had the same issue.

Had text over a background colour, both with the same RGB colour values and the text looked lighter.

Checked all colour settings/profiles and still no joy.

Problem solved by changing the colour mode to CMYK, then back to RGB which worked.

in the future, to find the best place to post your message, use the list here, https://community.adobe.com/

p.s. i don't think the adobe website, and forums in particular, are easy to navigate, so don't spend a lot of time searching that forum list. do your best and we'll move the post (like this one has already been moved) if it helps you get responses.

Which tool are you using to sample color -- Eyedropper or Color Sampler?

Have you applied any fx to the Type Layer, such as a color or gradient overlay? This can alter its color appearance from the original.  Also, the Type Layer mode can affect colors.

Color Sampler is a more precise tool.  It provides persistent value readouts from various sample points in both RGB & CMYK values.  Values are shown in the Info panel.

The Eyedropper tool merely averages colors based on the sample size and layers sampled (all, some, with/without adjustments).  Depending on your settings, you may experience variations.

Hope that helps.
