Complex warping

Hi!

I have been using the warp tool for a long time to create our mockups. I know its limitations, and I spend a lot of time working around them to make the best possible warp.
Some time ago, I investigated if it was possible to use a deformation from a 3D software to PS, but I couldn't find the way.
Recently, I discovered this image with a complex warping. Is it done by hand? Or did they use some automation to create it?

I am aware that are several ways to achieve something. Thanks for the link, that is what we usually do. But I was hoping to see if there was something more powerful to create really complex warpings.

When, in response to a longstanding Feature Request, the ability to create additional Grid lines to Photoshop’s Warp was introduced the point of the Feature Request seems to have been missed quite considerably.

But Illustrator’s Envelope Distort is in some ways superior to Photoshop’s Warp and sometimes I do indeed place an image in Illustrator, distort it there, then place the ai in Photoshop.
