Confused about why the duplicated layer also move the original layer

I have a weird issue, say if I want to play around and make different variations of a design. I duplicate the layers and have different group folders/artboards, but the biggest problem is the designs have one same layer/design that I use to move around in DIFFERENT folders somehow this affects the same layer even if its a duplicate or not. I center it to make it look good in one folder but in the other folder it is misaligned. So it becomes a dance between mutliple folders.
