Content Aware fill not working under Edit>Fill menu photoshop

Hi all.

I have always been able to use Content-Aware Fill under the Edit > Fill menu, but now it doesn't work.

And neither does an ordinary Fill with colour work.

They are not greyed out.

My selected layer isn't locked.

My selected layer is not a Smart Object.

My Mac OS is up to date as is my Photoshop App.

I know others have had an issue in the past but I have found nothing that works.

What has changed?

Thanks.

Correct answer davescm

You have the fill opacity set to 1%. If you change that to 100% do you see a result?

I feel a complete idiot, davescm! I have no recollection of changing that to 0% and neither did I notice it read 0%.

Thanks so much for pointing that out. All ok now, not surprisingly!

Yes, you will.

Instead of uninstall/reinstall, try removing preferences manually by renaming the file. Also, back up your preferences first.

https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/using/preferences.html

First follow the link to Backup Preferences, then keep scrolling to Reset Preferences > Manually for instructions on renaming the file so it can be restored.

In addition, you can use the panel menu in Swatches, Brushes, Actions, and many more panels to save your customization. Do that everytime you make a change, as you never know when you might need to restore things in an emergency.

@bandicoot5

I've moved your post from Using the Community (for forum questions) to Photoshop for you.

Instead of "up to date", can you give us the exact versions of PS and your OS?

Please share a screenshot that includes:

  • Layers panel
  • Document area with current selection
  • Options bar for the selection tool you used to make the selection
