Continue a path from closing anchor point

Hi,

I'm using the latest version of Photoshop. I'm trying to continue a path that I started but when I hover an anchor point using the pen tool, the nib shows 'O' for closing the path. However, it will allow me to only continue where I left off. For example when I leave off at anchor point B, Photoshop will only allow me to continue the path from B. I also tried selecting the A point using the direct selection tool. I would like continue the path from A instead. I know I can add anchor points manually but I would like for Photoshop to add them automatically like when you first use the pen tool. Is this possible?

If you deselect a path, you should be able to click on either end of the path to start adding more points automatically. You will have to reselect the path first.
