Control missing in adjustment layers in Photoshop

All of a sudden, the control in adjustment layers that allow you to apply an adjustment to just a single layer no longer appears. I am running Photoshop 25.3.1 under Windows 11. Can anyone help me get this restored?

The button and the key are both just shortcuts for the menu command, which is Layer > Create Clipping Mask and its keyboard shortcut, so even if you can’t see the button, the menu command will always be there to be able to do it.* If the menu command is visible but unavailable, then something might be selected that is a layer type or object type that can’t be converted into a clipping mask.

*Actually it might not be there if the menu commands were edited. If that was the case, restore the default menu commands by choosing Edit > Menus and choose the set Photoshop Defaults.

Hi!

What do you mean by control in Adjustment layers? Do you mean the ability to attach an Adjustment layer to a layer? If so, then you can hold down the Alt key and click on the line between the two layers to attach the Adjustment Layer to the Layer below. If that is not what you mean, can you give us a little more information about what is not working/there?

Thanks,

Michelle

Ok, that works, so thanks. But up until today, there used to be a little icon at the bottom of each adjustment layer (I think it was a square with a little arrow or something like that?) that did the same thing when activated. I'd like to have that back, though I can work with the Alt key method if need be.

Did you upgrade anything right before it went missing? It's possible that it will show up in the next update if that is the reason it went missing.

in the future, to find the best place to post your message, use the list here, https://community.adobe.com/

p.s. i don't think the adobe website, and forums in particular, are easy to navigate, so don't spend a lot of time searching that forum list. do your best and we'll move the post (like this one has already been moved) if it helps you get responses.
