Convert to smart object causes image to disappear...

Community Beginner ,

Hi All,

Never seen this in all my years using PS. With the new update (one version back and the latest) when I select a layer and "convert to smart object", the image disappears. Specifically I am pasting images into a predefined shape. I convert them to smart objects when I want to move them around easier or rasterize into a final composition. Not sure what is happening. I researched looking for answers and it doesn't seem anyone else is having this issue?

Thanks for any help!

Chris

Could you please post screenshots with the pertinent Panels (Toolbar, Layers, Options Bar, …) visible?

This was my same problem as well. Realized I was turning off the entire layer instead of just the blending effects that I had applied to it. Didn't realize since I had my layer's duplicate right on top of it.

In my case, I figured out that if the layer was turned off, and I converted to Smart Object, it was when it erased the layer
