Hi,
I'm having a few difficulties copying and pasting layers from one psd to another, this will save me a lot of time.
The problem is that I cannot select a layer and then copy it to the clipboard.
Any help is appreciated.
You guys are great.
Thanks
Jon
Yet another way is to select the layer or layers and choose duplicate layer(s)
and then choose the name of your destination document in the dialog.
If the documents are the same size, then the layers will be in the same position
in the destination document.

Have you done a Select - All after making the layer current? Edit - Copy requires that.
However, it might be better for you to just drag the layer(s) from document to document, though... You will carry all the data beyond the edges of the visible canvas that way.
If you're using tabbed view, tile the windows on the screen, make the document you want to copy from current, grab the layer(s) from the Layers panel and drag them to the document you want to copy to.

Hi,
Thanks for the quick reply, it was very helpful and I have managed to copy a layer from one .psd to another.
One quick question though, is there any way to paste the layer in place (Paste Special), so that it is in the same position as it was in the first .psd?
Thanks again
Cheers
Jon

Hold the Shift key down when dropping the layer after dragging it. Then it will be placed in the same location it was in the source document.

Another easy way to do what you want to do rather then copy paste.
With both images open. make a new layer on the target image. then choose Image>apply image and choose the opened image you want to make a copy of . it will place that image center on a new layer no fuss and no tiled windowed images.
the trick is they have to be the same size images.

Nice! Up to now I have always ignored that Destination Document field. Hidden in plain sight from me it was.
Thanks for that tip, MTSTUNER.

Not really the right place but can't find an answer to this anywhere - help?
Is there an equivalent of the duplicate layer to another destination document for Illustrator?
Use this command all the time in photoshop and could do with doing the same thing on about 20 or so illustrator eps

In Illustrator just copy and paste. Make sure Paste Remembers Layers is checked in the Layers panel menu. To select all objects in a layer click at the far right on the layer, right side of the little circle. Shift + Ctrl + V pastes in the same place.
