Does anyone know how you copy layers between photoshop documents by drag & drop and have the layers placed in the same position?

    Correct answer

    Try this:

    1. Select Duplicate layer from the layers panel flyout in your source document.

    2. In the dialog, specify your target document as the destination for the duplicate.

    I don't think I get this....

How can the copied items be in the same place if the two documents are different sizes?

It places the layer according to it's x and y co-ordinates. So sometimes the objects on the layer may not be visible in the new document if it is smaller than the original.
